Makers Empire is a 3D modeling app that introduces students to design thinking concepts through the 3D design and 3D printing. Makers Empire has an embedded 3D printing curriculum. Makers Empire requires a subscription, the APS Department of Technology currently purchases a subscription for a small cohort of tecachers. It is the recommended platform for grades K-3 in APS. Tinkercad is a free browser-based 3D modeling app. It is an Autodesk product. Students can engage in a variety of 3D modeling lessons and export their work in formats compatible with 3D printer slicing software, Minecraft schemas or lego builds. Tinkercad also includes circuit design software and visual code blocks as well as C++ coding to automate circuits or 3D modeling. It is the recommended platform in APS for grades 4-8.
Autodesk Fusion 360 is a sophisticated CAD program used by industry professionals. It is both a stand-alone program as well as browser-based. Students can use Fusion 360 for Education for free with proof of enrollment. They can also earn Autodesk certifications that are recognized in both higher education and industry. It is the recommended platform for grades 9+ in APS.
